— ANDERSON — Barbara J.  (Jackson) Schafer, 76, Anderson, died July 23, 2010 at her residence  after a brief illness.   

She was born Sept. 12, 1933, and resided in  Anderson most of her life. She  was a graduate of Anderson High School. Barbara received her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and master’s degree from Ball State University.  She was a retired speech pathologist from Anderson Community Schools.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, 20th Century, Pi Beth Phi Alum Club, several bridge clubs, Meadowbrook Manor Board, Madison County Literacy Association Board and teacher Menta.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Mark) Kaminski of Kentucky, W. Thomas (Ewa) Schafer of Georgia, Karen (Bruce) Bailey of Tennessee, John J.(fiancé, Amanda) Schafer of Colorado and Amy (Steven) Crell of Fishers; brothers, James R. (Judy) Jackson and Stephen T. (Janene) Jackson, both of Anderson;  sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Smitson of Muncie;  grandchildren, Katie, Lisa, Ellen, Alex, Laura, David, Brian, Caleb, Julie, Greg, Jacob, Hannah and Emma;  and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Schafer, whom she married in 1955;  parents, J. Robert and Edna (Tilbury) Jackson;  father-in-law, Harold E. Schafer; and mother-in-law, Helen H. Schafer.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with grandson David Bailey officiating.

Private scattering of ashes will be at East Maplewood Cemetery.
