Albert M. ‘Al’ Hornocker

July 19, 1930 - Aug. 28, 2011

ANDERSON, Ind. — Albert M. “Al” Hornocker, 81, of Anderson, died Aug. 28, 2011, at Bethany Pointe, following a long recovery from an auto accident in December.

He was born July 19, 1930, in Lawrence County, the son of Ora and Etta (Wolfe) Hornocker. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1948, and obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Purdue University.  He was a personnel supervisor at Delco Remy for 35 years, retiring in 1990. Following that he was a tax preparer for H&R Block for 20 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Anderson, Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge 77 F&AM, Sigma Pi Fraternity, John Purdue Club, and Purdue Alumni Association.

He enjoyed summers at Lake Freeman with family and friends and spring breaks in Florida. He was an avid reader.

Survivors include his five children, Kim Smith, Kelly (Johnny) Jones of Anderson, and Jay (Debbie) Hornocker of Lapel, Kristin E. (Mark) Kidd of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Kirk A. (Beth) Hornocker of Sweetser; eight grandchildren, Karli Smith (special friend, Ethan Mullins), Jordan Smith, Ashley Jones, Vada Hornocker, Margo  Hornocker, Kate Hornocker, Zachary Kidd and Allison Kidd; two great-grandchildren, Jaylen Jones and Oliver Mullins; and his sister, Rosemary Chapman of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanette E. Hornocker on Jan. 2, 2009; brother-in-law, Julian Chapman; and his son-in-law, Charlie Smith.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service officiated by Pastors Ryan Rasmussen and Donna Madewell. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thank you to Bethany Pointe for their special care of Al and a special thank you to his only sister, Rosemary, who devoted several months to his care.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Christian Center, or Riley Children’s Hospital.
