Helen I. Cronk

MADISON, Ind. — Helen I. Cronk, 81, formerly of New Castle and Anderson, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at University of Louisville Hospital following a long illness.

She was born Dec. 12, 1930, in New Castle, to the late Paul and Lola (Johnson) Shaffer.

She retired from Model Home Store, Anderson, in 1992. She had also worked at Anderson College and was church secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Anderson. Formerly, she had worked at World Bestos-Division of Firestone Corp. in New Castle.

A member of North Madison Christian Church and previously North Anderson Church of God, she had served as Sunday school superintendent and taught Sunday school. She loved to write puppet shows and made puppets for the church. Helen enjoyed attending symphonies, ballets, traveling, music and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Fred J. Cronk; a daughter, Suzanne (husband, Batbold) Dashzeveg of Madison; and a granddaughter,  Bethany Dashzeveg of Madison.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Robert Shaffer.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Rev. Arthur Whitaker officiating. Entombment will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Kidney Foundation.
