SARASOTA, Fla. — Warren M. Rider, 87 of Sarasota, Fla., died March 18, 2010, at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, Ind.
He was born April 4, 1922 in Anderson to Hugh and Mabel (Moore) Rider.
Warren first worked for General Motors as an engineer for 12 years, then owned and operated Lime City Manufacturing Co. in Huntington for 45 years, then sold the business to his son Randall.
Warren graduated from Anderson High School in 1940 and GMI Engineering School (Kettering University) in 1944.
He lived more than 30 years in Anderson before moving to Siesta Key, Fla., in 1980, and he also resided for more than 30 years in Sarasota, Fla.
Along with many community activities, he was a former president of the Optimist Club in Huntington and also a founding member of Pathfinders in Huntington. He was also very active in church activities as well.
Warren is survived by his wife, Jewell “Judy” (Cash) Rider, whom he married Jan. 16, 1944; five children, Paul Rider of Richmond, Larry Rider of Noblesville, Randall Rider of Fort Wayne, Rebecca Rider of Sarasota, Fla.; and Robert Rider of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces; a brother-in-law, George Kufeldt of Anderson; and many special friends.
His parents preceded him in death, as did a sister, Katherine Rider Kufeldt.
Services will be noon Tuesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Chaplain Maureen McCarthy of Friends Fellowship Community officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until the service at the funeral home.
