ANDERSON — Imogene P. Garrett, age 85, Anderson, died while in the loving arms of her children, on March 19, 2010, at Manor Care Health Care.
She was born in Burksville, Ky., on Saturday, Feb. 21, 1925, the daughter of John Will and Pearl (Anderson) Parrish.
She had resided in Anderson since 1941, and was employed for 35 years at Delco Remy; retiring in 1976.
Imogene was a member of Parkview Wesleyan Church in Chesterfield.
She enjoyed quilting, traveling, playing games, crossword puzzles, shuffleboard, and going out to eat. She was well known for her gift of cooking, and she loved to share it with others. She was a kind-hearted and giving lady, and never complained. Spending time at church, with the Secret Pal Club, and with all her family were her greatest joys.
Survivors include two children, Phyllis (Billy) Smith and Steve “Mouse” (Tina) Garrett, both of Anderson; two grandchildren, Jason Garrett and India (James) Seaton; three great-grandchildren, Shea, Emma and Myiah; three stepgrandchildren, Sammy (Donna) Smith, Pam (Kelly) Kirk and Johnny Smith; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren, Dysha, Sam, Kelly, Landan, Aspen, Brakenna, Ivy and Trenton; her sister, Barbara (Larry) Hiatt of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sister-in- law, Billie Jean Parrish Joslin, and a former daughter-in-law, Ruthie Sandala. Imogene was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Emmie Edward Garrett, who died March 23, 2008; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Charlie Russell, Betty and Joe Chandler, Mae and Clifton Fletcher and Marion and Wolford Hagan; and two brothers, Preston Parrish and Bill Parrish; also by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Holland and Willie Mae Garrett, Delmar and Albina Garrett, Letha and Raymond Yarberry, Reba and Shelby Strange and Jewell and Fred Traylor.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Park View Wesleyan Church in Chesterfield, officiated by the Rev. Paul Trent. Burial will take place at Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton.
Visitation hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, and one hour prior to the Thursday service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association; the American Diabetes Association or to Parkview Wesleyan Church, Chesterfield.
