July 27, 1926 - March 31, 2010
ANDERSON — Charles “Chalk” Raymond Kelly, 83, went home to be with his Holy Father on Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
He was born in Middletown, July 27, 1926, the son of Raymond and Nora Ellen Quinn Kelly.
Chalk adored his wife of 62 years, Frances, and until 2006, they lived in Middletown where they were born, raised, met and married. It was in the heart of Middletown that Chalk and Frances raised their three children, Sheryl, Beth and Chris.
Chalk would readily share that it was Frances’ smile that first attracted him to her. She loved his laugh, and that he always protected her, which wasn’t difficult with his 6-foot stature next to her 5-foot-1-inch frame. They were quite a pair and were inseparable for more than six decades, which was a true inspiration to all they met.
Chalk’s life can best be described as proud, as he took immense pride in his family, his military tour in World War II and his career at General Motors. He smiled and laughed frequently and was slow to anger, especially with those he loved.
He was a graduate of Middletown High School and retired from General Motors. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662 and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Frances (Day) of Anderson; two daughters, Sheryl Pate (Jerry) of Middletown and Beth Babb (Chet) of Pendleton; a son, Chris Kelly (fiancee, Kelli Jack) of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Ryan (Adrienne) Isaacs of Ada, Mich., Casey (Grant) Kelly of Anderson, and Cade Kelly of Anderson; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Isaacs and Greyson Isaacs of Ada, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. Fifth St., Middletown, with the Rev. Marty Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in Middletown.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Chalk loved his hometown. He loved his country. He loved his job. Most of all he loved his family and we will dearly miss him every day.
