Mary Beth Dunnichay diary: Aug. 22

Today is Friday, Aug. 22, and the boys had prelims tonight at 7 p.m. Both Thomas (Finchum) and David (Boudia) made it to the semifinals, which will be held tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Then that same night is when the finals will be held at 8 p.m.

Today, (U.S. divers) Kelci (Bryant), Haley (Ishimatsu), Ariel (Rittenhouse), Christina (Loukas), and I went to the USA house and had lunch and looked around in the shop that they have there. It was really nice and the food was awesome!! They had cheeseburgers and French fries, so we were pretty excited about that, ha ha. While we were there, there were some other athletes and their parents there as well. Shawn Johnson and her parents were there also, and we talked to them for quite some time. After we were done there, we caught a taxi back to the village and hung out until we had to leave to go watch the boys. I even started a bit of packing. We’re having a lot of fun here, but those of us who finished early are pretty excited to get home. We’re all pretty excited to get home and see our friends and families, because we have been gone for over a month now and it seems like forever.

(Sunday) is the (closing) ceremonies, and all of us divers and some coaches will be walking in it, so we’re all pretty stoked for that and excited to see it and what goes on this time. The next day (Monday) is when we will all be leaving to fly home and the people who are flying to Indianapolis won’t get in until about 11:30 at night, and by the time we all get our bags and drive home it will be a late night.

But it’s nearly 11 p.m. here and we have curfew, so I’ve got to go.

  • Mary Beth Dunnichay diary: Aug. 7 Today is Thursday, and tomorrow is the opening ceremonies! I am so excited! I can’t wait!!

Today was our first day back in the village from our little day-and-a-half adventure with our team. I am glad to be back in the village, and there are already a lot more people in the village than there were before we left.
