Letter: Embrace the best of all three schools

The suggestion to get rid of the mascot and name of Anderson High School and start over, using not the Pirates, Scots or Indians is plain wrong. We shouldn’t be ridding the city of our memories and of honoring those who went to Madison Heights and Highland, but we should be combining all the traditions of the three schools just as Doug Fletcher did for the state band contest, which he won.

My suggestion has always been to name the school Anderson Madison Heights and to use the Highlanders as the band name and mascot. Madison reflects not just the school, but the name of where the school is located, and the Highlander band outfits are just the best. Embrace the best of all three schools. Don’t start over.
