About how the referendum’s cost to taxpayers can be calculated:

• “NO, until they show they can improve test scores and graduation rates they must live within their means. Also, if they are facing a $20 million shortfall by 2013 how is $3.5 million going to change anything? Less short?”
• “Dear THB, Not sure where you get your numbers from but the annual impact of $69 for a $50,000 assessed value is off by about a factor of 4. It is closer to $300. Did you go to the calculator website?”

THB: Simple math doesn’t always work when calculating taxes.

Click on the referendum calculator. The final tax amount includes deductions such as homestead, mortgage and others. Know the assessed value of your home so you can type in the correct number.



About Rodney Richey’s column on mullets:

THB: Good for him; this is how to stop this mullet thing, on the front lines, in the barber shop. Barbers unite!

THB: The closing of a longtime, local business is always a bad thing, especially one that serves the fun side of life. Halloween just won’t be the same.



About woman dying, three hospitalized in rural Anderson crash

• “So the city and county can’t justify putting a 4-way stop there after all these incidents, but after one fatal accident at 500S and 50W there are new stop signs making a 4-way stop just months after it? Doesn’t make sense. I would think if there is this amount of serious accidents, they would decided to do something.”

THB: Clearly, this intersection needs some additional signage, maybe some speed bumps to warn motorists that the intersection is coming up and to slow them down. Anyone listening?



Overturned murder conviction case bounces through three prosecutors:

• u “Gee, what I read, the court said he can be retried, not that he is innocent. Some people I know who sat through that trial didn’t agree that he was innocent. So we’ll see...”

THB:  Agreed, he is out of prison, but another trial is possible. A developing story  to be continued.
