Letter: Dairy employees give helping hand to co-worker

I have never written a letter to the editor before, but I feel this story needs to be told. My son Jeff who is 45 years old and an employee of Prairie Farms was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma in January of this year for the second time.

After extensive surgery he went on sick leave. Thank God for insurance and although he received medical leave pay, it was quite a bit less than his weekly pay. I want you all to know that his fellow workers took up a collection for him and the office people followed along. Altogether these generous people raised over $1,000 for Jeff.

What a tremendous help this was to his family. They also made regular calls and visits to check on how he was feeling. He is back to work now and they have all been wonderful and supportive of him. He will continue with his treatments until next May. I just feel that the people of this community need to understand what kind of people work at the dairy. Please continue to support these wonderful people and let us all help to keep Prairie Farms here and going strong! These are people who live in and support this community, so let us all support them. Please let them expand so we can keep them here.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
