ANDERSON — An Indianapolis woman was sentenced to six months in jail by a Madison County judge for bringing marijuana and tobacco into the Pendleton Correctional Facility.
Tiffany J. Morgan, 23, Indianapolis, pleaded guilty in November to felony and misdemeanor counts of trafficking with an inmate after she brought nearly three ounces each of marijuana and tobacco.
Madison Superior Court 1 Judge Dennis Carroll sentenced Morgan Dec. 29 to four years in prison, with all but six months ordered served on probation. The term is to be served at the Madison County Jail.
In an agreement with prosecutors, a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession was dismissed. The agreement also called for Morgan to not serve more than one year behind bars.
According to court documents:
Prison officials discovered Morgan with the marijuana and tobacco during a search when she visited the prison on Sept. 2.
Morgan was attempting to visit Matthew Dearinger, 24, Franklin, according to a news release. Dearinger was sentenced in Johnson County to five years in prison for forgery. He has been a Pendleton Correctional Facility inmate since December 2006. He previously had a projected release date of Feb. 19, 2010, according to the Indiana Department of Correction, but it wasn’t immediately known if that will change because of Morgan’s trafficking conviction.
