Town Council meeting canceled

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Town Council meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday has been canceled, according to a news release from the town.



Weaving class begins Friday

PENDLETON — The Trading Post for Fiber Arts in Pendleton is offering a 4-harness weaving class Feb. 6-8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participants will complete a sampler as well as a completed project of their choice. They will learn to dress the loom and also how to calculate yarn for a project as well as finishing techniques.

One-day childbirth class offered Saturday

ANDERSON — Saint John’s Birthing Center is taking registrations for the next one-day “Prepared Childbirth” class, which will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The course provides information to empower the expectant mother and her family to make informed choices during pregnancy, labor, delivery and beyond.  Topics include: pre-term labor, stages of labor, comfort techniques for labor, medical interventions, care for mom after delivery, and newborn care. 

Saint John’s Birthing Center also offers Prepared Childbirth as a series conducted over five class sessions. Childbirth classes in Spanish also are available on a quarterly basis.

Make and take craft Saturday at library

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Community Library, 595 E. Water St., will host a make and take framed picture Valentine at 10 a.m. Saturday. Those in attendance will also discuss the library’s Craft-A-Month Club.

There is a $5 fee for this class. Those participating should bring a favorite photo and a pair of scissors. Call 778-7527 to register.



2009 Indiana Living Biography Series March 14

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Community Public Library in cooperation with Indiana Public Radio and WIPB invites you to be in the company of local legends. Throughout the year, four renowed Hoosiers will be interviewed in the library’s community room where they will share stories and life lessons with a live audience.

The interviews will be recorded for future radio and television broadcasts. Tickets are $15 each, or two for $25. Seating is limited. For additional information or questions contact the library at (765) 778-7527.



Ingalls police may get GPS

INGALLS — On Monday, Jan. 26 the Ingalls Town Council discussed the possibility of placing GPS transmitters in police cars to keep track of the location of the town’s two police officers and 10 reserve officers. Councilman Tim Green said it would cost the town $3,000 per month to equip the five vehicles.

Green proposed the idea of making the speed limit of Ingalls and its newly annexed territories 45 miles per hour. In some parts of town, the speed limit is 55 mph, he said. No action was taken on either measure.

The next Ingalls Town Council will be Monday, Feb. 9.



Pendleton Christian issues dare

PENDLETON — Truth and Dare! is a party game requiring a minimum of two players. Pendleton Christian Church, 1170 S. Pendleton Avenue, plans its own version of the game this month.

Times and topics are as follows:

Feb. 8: Relationships: The Truth behind a lasting and healthy relationship . . . and the dare to live into it.

Feb. 15: Divorce: The Truth of hope and mercy for those touched by divorce . . . and the dare to live into it.

Student calendars still available at library

PENDLETON — The 2008 arts initiative at the Pendleton Community Public Library is coming to a close. But, there is still one final thing left for you to do … buy a student art calendar at the library!

Throughout the year, local art students participated in the Indiana art project. Participants submitted original artwork depicting something in Indiana, and the pieces were displayed in the library. Patrons visiting the library were asked to vote for their favorites. The pieces receiving the most votes were complied into the 2009 student arts calendar which is for sale now at the Pendleton Community Public Library.

Calendars are now $8 each, and proceeds benefit the Friends of the Pendleton Community Public Library. The calendars include Jaycie Haywood’s painting of her back yard, Noah Hendershot’s depiction of a covered bridge on a summer’s day, and a photo taken by Jessica Shetterley that reminds us that there are “more than fields in Indiana.” The calendar also includes reproductions of original artwork by Leigh Ann Boram, which is currently displayed in the library’s periodical room.



South Madison seeks instructors

PENDLETON — South Madison Community School Corporation is requesting course proposals from potential instructors. Courses may be proposed in a wide range of areas such as fitness computers, arts and crafts and personal enrichment.

Instructors are not required to hold a teaching degree or certification, they should be highly qualified to instruct the proposed course.
