Community Briefs: Sept. 26

ANDERSON, Ind. — A compilation of community news briefs as published in the Monday edition of The Herald Bulletin.

Chicken noodles dinner set for Atlanta

ATLANTA — Aroma United Methodist Church, 16301 E. 281st St., will host a chicken noodles dinner on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Carryouts will be available. The church is handicap accessible.

A goodwill offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the church’s Open Arms Food Pantry.



40&8 to serve fish on Friday

ANDERSON — The Madison County Voiture 510 40&8, 1600 S. Rangeline Road, will host an all-you-can-eat fish dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. Cost is $8.



Yart headed to Muncie on Oct. 6

MUNCIE — Yart is coming to Muncie on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Yart is a yard sale for art that began in Muncie with students at Ball State University and continues in several U.S. cities. No Yart art will be priced above $40.

Muncie’s Yart 2011 will be held in conjunction with ArtsWalk in downtown Muncie, from 5 to 9 p.m.

CCA retirees meet Wednesday

ANDERSON — Retirees of Container Corporation of America will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Elks Lodge, 1803 Broadway.



Genealogy program series begins

ANDERSON — In October, in celebration of National Genealogy Month, the Genealogy Department of the Madison County Historical Society will feature a free series of Monday programs.

♦ Oct. 3, at 7 p.m., “Women in History” presented by Nancy Massey, Noblesville Public Library.

♦ Oct. 10, at 9:30 a.m., “Using Census Records” presented by Bill Upperman, Madison County Historical Society.

♦ Oct. 24, at 7 p.m., “Pioneer Cemeteries” presented by Melody Hull, Madison County Cemetery Commission and Madison County Historical Society.

Programs will be at the Madison County History Center, 11 W. 11th St. For information, call 683-0052.



Buffet breakfast at Pendleton AMVETS

PENDLETON — The Ladies Auxiliary of the AMVETS Post 26, 939 S. Broadway, will host an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Cost is $5 per person.



10-year homecoming reunion on Oct. 1

ANDERSON — The Anderson High School class of 2002 will host a 10-year reunion of its homecoming  from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Moran’s at Grandview, 1905 North Shore Extension.

There is no charge. An open menu and cash bar will be available.

The AHS homecoming game will be played on Friday. A table will be displayed at the entrance to the field.

Rock Church plans Holiday Bazaar

PENDLETON — The Rock Church Holiday Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the church, 6501 Ind. 67S.

A chicken noodles luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $6 and children under 5 eat free with an adult purchase. Homemade bakery items will also be for sale.  

Vendor space is available by calling Kelly at 640-8168.

    When I first came to Anderson in 1951, Jim Carter had been named head football coach at Anderson High School. At that time, football at AHS was little more than an activity to get out of the way to make room for basketball season. The Indians were known to play two games in the same week to shorten the season.
