ANDERSON, Ind. — ‘Oliver!’ auditions set for Aug. 7-8

ANDERSON — The next audition call for Anderson’s Mainstage Theatre will be for the upcoming production of “Oliver!”

Auditions are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, and from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, at the theater, 124 W. Ninth St.

Those wishing leading or character roles will need to bring a song to sing, and be prepared to read from the script.

An accompanist will be available.

“Oliver!” will run Sept. 30 and Oct. 2, 8 and 9.



Visitors craft walking sticks at Mounds

ANDERSON — Mounds State Park is conducting a walking stick workshop at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The workshop will be held at the park’s visitor center.

All are welcome; kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Call 649-8128. Activity fee is $5 per person covers all supplies needed.

There is also a $5 gate fee.



Jamboree to feature Saturday pet parade

MARKLEVILLE — A Pet Parade will be held at the Markleville Community Park as part of the Markleville Jamboree on Saturday, Aug. 7, at noon.

Prizes will be awarded for best dressed, owner/pet look-alike and talent.

Classy cars to benefit Alzheimer’s group

ANDERSON —  The local Alzheimer’s Support Group will sell watermelon slices at the Classy Car Show on Sunday, Aug. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Visitors should come to the area behind Community Hospital at the pond for a nostalgic afternoon for a good cause.

Wearing ’50s garb is encouraged.



Markleville to show off kids’ talents

MARKLEVILLE — The Markleville Jamboree will host a talent contest on Saturday, Aug. 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

First prize will be $25; second price, $15; and third prize, $10.

Performances will be confined to the stage. Time limit is 5 minutes. For information, call 533-9012.



Cornhole tourney Saturday at AMVETS

PENDLETON — A cornhole tournament will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Pendleton AMVETS, 939 S. Broadway.

Team sign-up time is noon. The public is invited to participate.



Booth sign-ups taken for Heritage Days

FRANKTON — Non-food booth applications for the Frankton Heritage Days Festival, Sept. 17-19, are now being taken.

Deadline is Sept. 5; to reserve the same location, the deadline is Aug. 5.

Rental rate is $8 per front foot in the tent and $6 per front foot outside. Rental includes water and electricity $5 for the weekend.
