MITCHELL — Indiana State Poet Laureate Norbert Krapf will be the keynote speaker at the Fall Poet Rendezvous celebration poetry Oct. 23-25 at Spring Mill State Park.
Krapf will speak on Saturday followed by the announcement of the final winners in the annual poetry contest sponsored by the organization, according to Indiana State Federation of Poetry Clubs’ President, Glenna Glee Jenkins of Anderson.
In June, Esther Towns of Selma, Darleen Butler of Fort Wayne and Jenkins and Marietta Castor of Anderson, traveled to Duluth, Minn., to attend the annual convention of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.
Nine Indiana poets, Mable Jean Caylor of Pennville, Alice and Mary Couch of Noblesville, Jenkinsof Anderson, Jeanne Losey of Shelbyville, Esther Towns and Shirley Reese of Selma, Beverly Stanislawski of Crown Point, Barbara Funke of Chesterton, and Dena Gorrell, member of Oklahoma, won a total of 15 wards in the national contest, four of which were first place.
There are several poetry clubs in Indiana who belong to the ISFPC, which meets twice a year in May and October. The group sponsors an annual contest, two semi-annual contests and a members only contest with each bi-monthly newsletter. Jenkins is the editor of the newsletter.
