Pioneer Day set for Mounds State Park this weekend

ANDERSON, Ind. — Visitors to Mounds State Park can take a two-day walk back this weekend to pioneers days.

The Friends of Mounds State Park is hosting Pioneer Day on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Sunday, at 10 a.m., there will be an 1800s historic church service with refreshments and fellowship afterwards. Some bench seating is available, but bring a lawnchair or blanket if you have it.

Held at the historic Bronnenberg house, the events offer something for everyone including pioneer games, butter making, household chores practice, crafts and LIFE (Lowrey is Fun and Easy) organ music.

Get a taste of old-time foods as the farmer will be cooking a fresh pot of ham ‘n’ beans and will offer free samples until it’s gone.

There will also be old-fashioned popcorn cooked over an open fire.

The programs are free and open to the public, after paying the $5 per carload gate fee. Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. Call the Interpretive Center at 649-8128 for more information.
