WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —
The scores might be getting a bit closer but so far nobody has been able to knock off 15-year-old Colin Proctor in the Boys State Junior Golf Championship.
Proctor mowed down two more foes on Thursday to reach the final four in what started as a 60-man field over the Kampen Course at Purdue University.
In the day’s first match Proctor topped Greenwood’s Louis Gleixner 5 & 3. Things tightened up a bit in the second match as he faced 16-year-old Jonathan G. Bohenkamp from Bedford. But again Proctor prevailed 3 & 2. In the four matches he has played to this point, his second win Thursday had the tightest final score.
Play will conclude today with a semifinal and championship match.
In Proctor’s 8:10 a.m. match he will challenge Kokomo’s Ben-Marvin Egel. Egel defeated Portage’s Tyler Nichol 6 & 5 in Thursday’s second match. Proctor was seeded No. 11 at the start of match play. Egel was seeded No. 23.
The other semifinal pits No. 5 seed Ryan Grassel of Chesterton against No. 56 seed Timmy Hildebrand of Carmel.
