New $336M casino opens on Ohio River

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (AP) — Opening ceremonies are being held Monday for a new $336 million casino boat in southeastern Indiana.

The new Hollywood Casino on the Ohio River at Lawrenceburg opened up to its first gamblers on Thursday, replacing the 13-year-old Argosy Casino.

The new boat is more than twice the size of previous one and has about 4,400 gambling positions, which Pennsylvania-based owner Penn National Gaming says is the most of any riverboat casino in the country.

The casino is less than two miles from a bridge to Cincinnati’s Kentucky suburbs and has been under construction for two years.

The Lawrenceburg casino and the Horseshoe Casino along Lake Michigan in Hammond have been Indiana’s busiest riverboats.
