Lakeville town clerk surrenders after charges filed

LAKEVILLE, Ind. (AP) — The clerk-treasurer of a northern Indiana town has surrendered to police a week after failing to appear in court on charges he beat his girlfriend.

An arrest warrant for Lakeville Clerk-Treasurer Casey Grove was issued Oct. 26 after he failed to appear for arraignment on charges of felony residential entry and misdemeanor battery. He turned himself in to police Monday night.

Prosecutors say Grove attacked his 20-year-old girlfriend after finding her in bed with another man at the man's South Bend home.

Town Council President John Kuhn has said the community's assets are secure, but officials are working through a backlog of unpaid bills.

The 30-year-old Grove was elected in 2007 to his position in the town about 10 miles south of South Bend.
