INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels says he doesn't want to see trustees of the state's public colleges and universities asking for more money at the Statehouse.
Daniels told a conference of trustees Monday that they should put support for their schools on the back burner when it comes to making tough, financial decisions.
Daniels gave keynote remarks to the first Trustees Academy. Dozens of trustees from Indiana University, Purdue, Ivy Tech and other schools attended the session at IUPUI.
After higher education took a $150 million budget hit last year from cutbacks ordered by Daniels, the trustees planned to devote much of Monday's gathering to efficiency in spending. Daniels said it was an appropriate topic.
