INDIANAPOLIS — Gunshots were fired near the downtown Indianapolis convention center after a fight stemming from an event there spilled outside.
Police Sgt. Paul Thompson says no one was injured from the gunfire, but that two people might have fired shots into the air late Wednesday night. One police officer suffered minor injuries as officers arrested a person while working to break up the crowd.
Witnesses say the fight started as about 1,500 people were leaving the Indiana Convention Center after the preliminaries of a talent show that is part of Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration.
Thompson says the police department was not aware of Wednesday night’s event but would have officers at the talent show’s semifinals next week.
